To bridge the gap between the life-essential importance of peroxiosmes and our scarce knowledge about this organelle, the European research community interested in peroxiosmes has joined in an 8 Mill ? EU-project entitled "Peroxisomes in Health and Disease", which is coordinated by Johannes Berger (folder about the project -pdf-)
One of the goals is to elucidate the proteome of peroxiosmes. Under the lead of the Bettina Warscheid and Helmut Meyer (Medizinisches Proteom-Center Ruhr-Universität Bochum, Germany), we have contributed to the proteomic characterization of mouse kidney peroxisomes using protein correlation profiling. We are additionally interested in the peroxisomal differences in various cell types and tissues in particular in brain.
